Advancement of Bubble CPAP for Use in Children in Low Resource Settings: A Study of Safety

Activity Description

Clinical trial evaluating the safety and effectiveness of a modified bubble CPAP device in children with respiratory distress age 1 month to 5 years. The device is constructed from low cost, easy to find materials. Typically bubble CPAP has only been used in neonates, so this device has a modified nasal prong to adapt it for use in children. Children supported with bubble CPAP are monitored by a nursing team for any complications that could be due to treatment with device. Additionally, data is being collected tracking trends in vital signs and respiratory scores of patients on bubble CPAP, hospital length of stay and overall morbidity/mortality compared to historical data.
